Time of year to travel 2017

Time of year to travel 2017

by kristi

We are planning on going to the cape the last week of April to the end of May.

I am wondering what kind of season it has been the past year.

If we will be leaving too early?, the earlier we leave the longer we will have for our trip.

We will be traveling from Central West NSW near Dubbo.

Any advice would be much appreciated, this is our first trip.:)

Hi Kristi,
by: Katrin

Please read the chapter "when to go" in the Free Pocket Guide - it outlines the ups and downs of each month and has just been all freshly updated.

The last couple of years we have had bad (dry) wet seasons, however this year is wetter, and on an average year the main road can still close in April - on a wet year even May.

Anyone who travels in April, May I always stress you do need to have a flexible plan with extra time should you get stuck behind flooded rivers.

If you come from as far as you do, you should also have a Plan B in case you cannot do the Cape you are still prepared to be happy to do something else instead of having to turn back home, disappointed.

It might not be too early to leave Dubbo in late April, but i recommend do read in the Free Pocket Guide about travelling the Cape in May :-)
