Old Telegraph Track with Camper Trailer

Old Telegraph Track with Camper Trailer

by Col Sheedy

Hi Katrin

I completed Cape York in July this year and was looking forward to the Old Telegraph Track, but I made mention of our intention to a traveller who was doing the track with some mates.

I asked about the track and any tips he might have.

He took one look at my off road camper trailer and said “ good luck with that “ ; well that was enough to scare the hell out of the misses and that part of the trip was canned.

My question is, can the the OTT be completed successfully with an off road camper trailer, or do you suggest leaving it at Bramwell junction and swag it instead.

I am a reasonably experienced 4x4er.

Your opinion and anyone else’s would be appreciated.

As a result of missing this iconic section of the Cape, I feel cheated and want to return with a few of the lads and complete it.

Kind regards

Col Sheedy

Hi Col,
by: Katrin

If you are happy to do a night or two in the swag, I would warmly recommend it.

It is possible to do it (my partner Mark's word as well of course), but you may be more restricted to cheat tracks through some crossings and have less fun if you want to do more challenging angles and come home with better footage.

I understand the OTT made you feel that you didn't complete the Cape and i fully agree!

I do have a Trailer Guide inside the full Destination Guide if you want to read the full info to make a more informed decision:

Destination Cape York Travel Guide

It also includes all of the rest of the Cape when it comes to travelling with a trailer :-)
