Moa Island

Moa Island is also called Banks, or Mua.

It is the second largest of all of the Torres Strait Islands after Prince of Wales.

Right next to Badu - with smaller communities but a sealed road between them,

... it is also a similar one to the inner islands in many ways.

Moa Island

The road, which now is sealed, goes between the two communities.

moa island road

Like the other islands in this group, Moa has mostly light vegetation and the typical mounds of rock.

The road goes past the Moa Peak - the highest peak on the outer Torres Strait islands.

There are also the tracks,

moa island 4wd tracks

... and some four wheel drive tracks to many different places and beaches,

moa island four wheel drive tracks

... and there are the two communities.

Kubin Village

Kubin is the southern one,

St Pauls Community

And St Pauls is in north east.

st pauls moa island

Both are beautiful in their own ways.

Kubin Village

Kubin Village is originally called Arkai. It is one of the two communities on Moa Island.

It is located in the south-western end of the island,
and south of the other community, St Pauls.

The Village

It's a cute little village with narrow streets,

... parks,

... a church,

kubin church

... and a community hall.

But if you are a traveller,

Moa Art Centre

... the best thing is the Moa Art Centre.

There is none in the other community, St Pauls,

... so this is the Moa Island Art Centre.

Kubin Sunset

Further down the street is the pier,

... with a lovely little beach,

kubin jetty beach

... a boat ramp,

... nice views over the water and other islands,

kubin jetty

... the barge ramp,

kubin seaswift ramp

... and this side of the village is the best place to watch the sunset.

Kubin Sunrise

While the other, eastern side,

... is great for the sunrise.

kubin beach

There is a beautiful beach,

... that is great to walk in the early morning,

... and enjoy the Moa Island sunrise.

St Pauls

St Pauls is originally called Wug. It is one of the two communities on Moa Island.

It is located in the eastern end of the island, and north of the other community, Kubin.

Stroll Around the Town

The main road in comes right to the beach,

... with the church on one side, and the pier on the other.

st pauls jetty

Like on the other outer islands, the narrow streets are so cute.

Drive Around the Town

There are also tracks that go around,

st pauls tracks

... and like elsewhere, there are the horses.

You can go for a drive up to the Lookout,

... with some views over the town,

... and you can go for a drive to the northern end of the beach,

st pauls cemetery track

... past a cemetery,

... with views over the rest of the beach.

Walk Along the Beach

Like on Badu, the community is located along a long beach.

st pauls beach western end

There is a creek in the northern end,

st pauls beach track

... but the rest of the beach is so nice and easy to walk.

st pauls beach

There is a beach monument for the missionaires,

st pauls beach monument

... some picnic shelters,

st pauls beach walk

... and some lovely views ...

... in each direction.

st pauls community beach

Then you come to the pier,

st pauls pier

... the barge ramp,

st pauls jetty other side

... and another small beach behind it.

st pauls beach eastern end

If you keep going,

st pauls seaswift barge

... you come to the last point,

st pauls rocks

... and that is the best place ...

st pauls beach end

... to watch St Pauls sunsets.
