MOON LITE OVER FOIRD ON LIONS DEN OFF TRACK
They say its only witches and mad men go bush at midnite, well try truckin in 20 tonnes of precious building gear in 1969 with the truck front grill stuck under the Lions Den fiords rockshelf -- mad men in the moonlite ahoy!
The main event may have been avoided had we had that extra beer and not been able to be awoken at 11pm only to treak 20 kms south in landcruisers go rescue the Pantek truck from Sydney.
The principal feat was to undertaken with the baby dozer being taken down( D9 some baby )to the stream by a drunk frenchman man. We set to handling ever piece of fibre cement, timbers and frames for the BOSS MANS cottage (72 square dwelling, 9.25¤mtrs X 72 you do the math)into the gorging mouth of the dozer then rigging and towing the truck off the fiord. This with the need to man handle all that material it all back onto the table top bought us up to a 24 hour day to 11am next day. (Blow it we missed breakfast)
We joked and laughed our way back to camp knowing the death adders on the creek bank had no victory that nite.
Sadness arrived by mail the next week that a young girl swimming on the same fiord one Sunday had sucombed to a near fatal attack by them.
We commerated in that strange company of men (and our superb lady chef Sue) a few thoughts to that young girls health and in a strange comadare, had a cold beer that nite in far more thoughtful frame of mind.
MAD MEN likely or just blokes howing in to their work as men often do always dreaming of home camp and Sue's fine food
A" cold beer " in outback Cooktown i hear you say stay tuned in for Harrys Koolgardie safe adventures in Isabella creek two mad Germans an irate Frenchman and crazy Irish blokes with blessings abounding everywhere.
