How long does it take to drive Archer River to Bamaga?

by John

According to Google Maps, which I trust implicitly, the road journey between Archer River and Bramwell Junction is about 170 Km and estimates the trip would take about 7 hours.

Bramwell Junction to Bamaga is a similar distance with a similar time estimate (via the Bypass Road).

I would be travelling in late July and am planning to drive at a reasonably leisurely pace. Do those time estimates seem reasonable?

They seem very generous.

Is there accomodation (not camping) at Hann River Roadhouse?

Hi John,

You can trust Google maps in civilised areas but not always in remote areas like Cape York.

Here, it's the conditions of the dirt roads that determine your pace and travelling times, which can vary huge between different months, even days if it has rained.

Travelling time and pace are briefly explained in the FREE Pocket Guide, along with what to expect from the roads and water levels in different months.

More detailed info, along with what kind of accommodation there is in each place, is in the Destination Guide.

Archer River to Bramwell in a decent four wheel drive I reckon maximin 3.5 hours if boggy I do it usually in 2 hours not so boggy.

However take your time look at the dirt and watch out for potholes
