Caravan?

Caravan?

Hello Katrin

My wife and I are planning a trip up Cape York in late May or early June.

We have our own Landcruiser 4WD 200 series plus a bushtracker off road caravan.

On a preliminary basis is it feasible to tow the caravan up to the top of the cape on the development road or do you recommend that we drop the van somewhere enroute and continue up to the top with just the 4WD and a tent plus other supplies and gear?

Some people do pull their vans up to the tip. It's doable, but you'll have to take the Bypass Roads and you'll miss out the Old Telegraph Track - by far the most fun part of the whole Cape York trip.

Your van would also take some damage because the Bypass Roads, and even the Peninsula Developmental Road, can be very heavily corrugated. You don't see many vans north of Lakeland - exactly for that reason.

It really depends on how much you like roughing vs caravan comfort, but personally i would definitely leave the van behind and make the most of it by doing the fun 4WD tracks.

Oh, and you're going early in the season. Count on higher water levels across the tracks and some smaller tracks still being closed.

Also this Wet season is having an extremely late start, so the end is likely to be late too (see the coming newsletters). With some bad luck, that could force you delay your timing.

Hi Stuart

Just wondering if your forum was 2016 or now and if you decided to take your van?

Thank

D
