There
is lots of different Cairns accommodation to choose from.
Like any
other city, Cairns has a good choice of hotels, resorts and holiday
apartments, as well as hostels, motels and caravan parks.
More
Expensive Accommodation
Hotels
Up on the peninsula our hotels are more like
outback pubs, in Cairns they are of course most often luxury
highrisers with all the modern amenities you can imagine.
Many luxury
ones are
on the Esplanade and Lake and Abbott Streets.
Apartments
There are also many apartment buildings in central Cairns, and these
are very nice, self
contained places
to stay. They are not cheap but there
is often
enough room to share with another couple or a small group. Most are
central, many are on the Esplanade and in Lake
Street.
Bed and
Breakfast
There are also bed and breakfasts in case you like to be spoilt with a
more personal service and a breaky cooked for you. Many
are
in Draper Street, and in suburbs like Edge Hill, Freshwater, Bayview
Heights,
and some northern beaches such as Holloways Beach, Clifton Beach and
Trinity
Park.
Cheaper Accommodation
Resorts
in Cairns
In many smaller towns in Cape York, a resort is the most luxury place
to stay.
This is not necessarily the case in Cairns, where the term
even covers backpackers resorts. They can still be clean and good
places to stay, just don't expect five star luxury.
Backpacker
Hostels I used to
stay a lot in backpacker
hostels
when younger. They are cheap, they have shared kitchens to cook your
own meals, they are great when you are young, some are better, some are
worse.T here
are many in central
Cairns and on the Esplanade, you are safest to go for the larger ones.
Motels
and
Camping
Motels
But
if you're heading to Cape York, it's most convinient to sleep close to
your vehicle where everything is packed.
Apart from caravan parks,
motels are the best accommodation (park right outside your bedroom
door). Most are along the main road south, as well as north from
Cairns.
Caravan
Parks
Caravan
parks are excellent places to stay for Cape York travellers - you are
already prepared for a camping trip.
There are about 10 of them in the
town - a few are quite central, and then there are the ones in
southern, and in northern Cairns.
Resorts
On this
page you have the resorts amongst Cairns accommodation.
There are
lots of them, and most
are in the city centre. The page
starts with the central
resorts in Cairns,
and further down you have the ones in north and south Cairns.
