TOURIST
SEASON
AND THE ROADS
With the June-July school holidays, the
peak of the tourist season is here, and this is the time
of the year when you should have all your accommodation and camping
booked, or you may miss out.

More roads and tracks are
also opening,
and the CREB Track opened earlier this week. But be aware it is a track
that gets wet, and when it does, it can get temporarily closed any time
during
the season.
NATIONAL
PARKS OPENING
As predicted, the
southern parts of Lakefield National Park have opened by now.
That includes the camp grounds in Kalpowar Crossing, Mick Fienn
Waterhole, Dingo Waterhole, Old Faithful Waterhole, Kennedy Bend (sites
1, 2 and 4), Twelve Mile Lagoon, Six Mile Waterhole, Old Laura
Homestead, Horseshoe Lagoon, and Welcome Waterhole. Note that Kennedy
Bend camp site 3 will not open for the 2023
camping season.
Most of the northern
parts of the national park are anticipated to open on 1 July.
These include Annie River, Basin Hole, Bizant River, Brown Creek, Five
Mile, Hann Crossing, Hanush’s Waterhole, Midway
Waterhole, Orange Plain Waterhole, Saltwater Crossing, Seven Mile, and
Sweetwater Lake.
The
rest - the Bottom Whiphandle Waterhole, Top Whiphandle Waterhole, and
Melaleuca Waterhole are anticipated to reopen 15 July, due to extended
wet
season conditions.

Oyala Thumotang
was anticipated
to open on 22
June, but that has been extended to 6 July. All this is not unusual, so
if you want to stay in national parks, bear in mind that a later season
trip means more is open.
COMING
EVENTS
This
month, we will have Laura Dance Festival, Mareeba
Rodeo, Chillagoe Festival, and
Cairns and Mossman Show.

Good to know if you are around and want to include some of these in
your trip :-)
DESTINATION
CAPE YORK GIFT CARD
All the detail is in the
Destination
Guide, and - there is also the gift
card, always, for any occasion all year around
:-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.
Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.
If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.
That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!
Have a great day :-)
Katrin.
