Hi Everyone,
Below is the latest from Cape York :-)
And, something I didn't mention in the last newsletter. Yes
- the Gulf Savannah
Guide is still under construction.
These Big Guides
do take time because I don't go the easy way about them. I want them
original and first hand - not the information from another book. On
top of that, the Wet Season is always a busy time with most email
enquiries, which has given me less time to focus on the Guide.
Please rest assured that
it is coming along, and I do my best to get it
out as soon as I possibly can - thank you!
PLEASE
NOTE
- if you have done the trip, got the Guides and feel that you no longer
need these newsletters, you can
scroll to the end of this email to
unsubscribe - thank you :-)

=============================================
WEATHER,
SEASON AND THE ROAD
The month of May has been reasonably dry, the main roads are open, and the tourist season is picking up.
There are already many more travellers on the roads compared to the
last month.

So, Mulligan
Highway is open except that some bridges have works done
this
time of the year. These can be temporarily closed for some hours if
needed.
PDR, Telegraph Road
and Bypass Roads
are open 'with caution' at this stage.
The road to Iron Range,
Portland Roads and Chili Beach is open with 5t load limit, and same
goes for the road to Port Stewart.
Fairview / Palmerville / Maytown / Whites Creek roads are open.
Running Creek Track is closed at this stage.
NATIONAL
PARKS OPENING
Lakefield National
Park opens for the season
in sections.
The southern half,
which includes Kalpowar Crossing, Mick Fienn Waterhole, Dingo
Waterhole, Old Faithful
Waterhole, Kennedy Bend, Twelve Mile Lagoon, Six Mile Waterhole, Old
Laura Homestead and Horseshoe Lagoon, is anticipated to open
on 1 June 2023.
Welcome Waterhole, due to its difficult access track, is
anticipated to open on 12 June 2023, subject to road and
weather conditions.
The northern half
of the national park, which includes Sweetwater Lake, Annie River, Five
Mile Creek, Seven Mile, Saltwater Crossing, Bizant River, Brown Creek,
Basin Hole, Top Whiphandle Waterhole, Bottom Whiphandle Waterhole,
Orange Plain Waterhole, Hann Crossing, Hanush’s Waterhole, Melaleuca
Waterhole and Midway Waterhole, is anticipated
to open on 1 July 2023.

Cape Melville
National Park is anticipated to open on 31 July 2023,
and Oyala
Thumotang on 22 June 2023. Handy to know if you
want to visit any of these.
COMING
EVENTS
In the coming month, we
have Weipa Fishing Classic, Normanton Rodeo,
Cooktown Discovery Festival, and Laura Rodeo and Races.

A month full of some of the best Cape
York events :-)
NO MORE UPDATES
IN THE DESTINATION GUIDE THIS YEAR
Since the Destination
Guide was updated in late April, there are no
more big updates
coming until January 2024.

If you already have the
Guide and bought within the last two
years, send me an email and I will send
you the latest version.
If
you don't already have the Guide -- with no more udates, it's a great time to buy :-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.
Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.
If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.
That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!
Have a great day :-)
Katrin.

only reads text. Consider getting an email account with Yahoo or others that can read HTML (and remember to change your email address, which can be done in the end of every newsletter.
