THE
SEASON AND THE
ROAD
If you remember, this time last year, the PDR was still
closed. It was
an extremely late wet season, but all in all not as wet as this year
was. This year was
wetter, but the main road is already open to Weipa
and the NPA.

Due to the late wet, some local businesses only got to open in May last
year. This year, Punsand
already opened, on ANZAC Day, and Loyalty
will open soon.
Still, all
that said, we have to remember that April
is still a wet season month.
I keep saying that every year - a cyclone can turn up with no longer
than a week's notice and stuff all your travel plans or leave you stuck
somewhere. We just saw the cyclone Ilsa that made the landfall in
Pilbara region in WA on 13. April. It doesn't happen every year, but
every now and again an April cyclone surprises us. And if it's a cat 5,
like Ilsa was, it is very destructive.

That's why I
always say that May is a
better month to travel, as
the cyclone season always somehow, suddenly ends after the end of
April.
COMING
EVENTS
So, in May, many Cape
York events
start, and this year we have Chillagoe Rodeo, the
Great Wheelbarrow Race, and Torres Strait Cultural Festival.

There are also Port Douglas Carnivale and the Cairns Caravan and
Camping Expo in May this year.
PRICES UPDATED
IN
THE DESTINATION GUIDE
April is the month I do
the yearly
updates of all of the prices in the Destination Guide.
I cannot do it with the January updates, because most of the local Cape
York businesses only decide on their prices for the year in the end of
the wet season.
So, all the
accommodation, tours and other small businesses' prices were updated
one by one, all done first hand, mostly by ringing.
As always, it's hard to get it 100%, but it's as close as possible. As
little as possible of the rest was changed, making sure you don't
have to reprint the Guide.

If you already have the Guide
(bought within the last two years),
the updated version is included in your purchase.
Just give me an email and I will send you the latest version (be
patient please if you don't get a really quick reply - I will have a
lot of people asking).
If you don't already have the Guide - it is the last updates to
the Destination Guide
for this year - a great time to buy - there will be no more big changes
in 2023 :-)
MOTHER'S
DAY PRESENT
And finally, with the
Mothers' Day around the corner, there is a present idea
for your adventurous Mum :-)
She might already have the Cape on her plans, or you might give her a
whole new idea!

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.
Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the
information once on the trip.
If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.
That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!
Have a great day :-)
Katrin.
