It's this time of the year -

SEASON
AND WEATHER
So, the September school holidays are
finished, which
is always the end of the last bits of the tourist season. From now, the
roads will be quieter, but also, the weather will be hotter and the
early wet season storms will start some time soon.

This year, with the La Nina predictions,
it is anyone's guess when the
rains start. There can always be local rains, but in the big picture,
just yet, it does not look like Cape York will get nearly as much rain
as the south east of the country.
ROAD
REPORT
So the latest on the road, from north to south. Northern Bypass - as often, south of
Jardine River there are big corrugations. Then there is a good section
and then it turns bad again.
Southern Bypass, as often, is
corrugated in places, graded in others, but the southern end of it is
good.

Telegraph Road is really bad
between Bramwell and Moreton, and still quite bad from Moreton south,
until the PDR.

Archer
River is having bridge
works, so Cape York's most adventurous main road crossing is soon a
history!
Just south of the crossing, the three kilometres that were not yet
sealed, are also getting done now.

Archer to Coen is good, and not
that much dirt is left on that section.
About 50/50 is sealed now of that section, and the stretches that are
not sealed are pretty good.

Coen to Musgrave there are some
good parts, but there are some dustholes and corrugations as well.

Musgrave to Hann - the road is
ok, and south of Hann it is good.
All in all, lots of road is quite bad, but around Hann River, it is
some of the best.
COMING
EVENTS
The season for the events
starts running out, and we have just had
the Cooktown Hog Hunt, Mapoon Barra Bash and Karumba Fishing
Classic.

Yet to come are the Cooktown Barra Competition in late October, and
Cooktown Races in early November - about the last events of the
year.

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.
Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.

That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!
Have a great day :-)
Katrin.
