=============================================

RAIN AND TOURIST SEASON

It's been been a rainy week as a large rain system covers the eastern Australia. Unseasonal for us up in the north where July usually is the first month with truly blue skies.

It's affecting some roads, so while the PDR and the road to the Tip are open at the moment, the ones that are closed due to the rain are Burke Developmental Road (BDR), Starcke Wakooka Track, and the western shortcuts between the BDR and PDR. Other roads may get closed depending on what the rains do.

2022 tourist season

Despite the rains, it's still very busy with travellers up here, particularly now, during the school hoildays. Camp grounds are full and it's just another great tourist season :-)

NATIONAL PARKS OPENINGS

Some national parks' post-wet season openings have also been slightly changed. The opening of the northern sites of Lakefield National Park is predicted to happen on 8. July, although some of the Twelve Mile camping area sites will be closed (see the details on the booking page on their website). Oyala Thumotang's remotest sites hopefully open by 30. July, and Cape Melville by 1. August as predicted.

CREB Track is closed, as being steep and slippery, it is always very sensitive to rains.

COMING EVENTS

So after the last month's events at Cooktown, Weipa and Bamaga, this month we will have Mareeba Rodeo, Cairns and Mossman Show, and Kuranda Roots Festival.

And of course, the NAIDOC week, this week. Good to know if you are around and want to include some of these in your trip :-)

A SMALL UPDATE
IN THE DESTINATION GUIDE

As promised, there are no updates coming until 2023 that would require you to reprint the Guide.

There were however, two small updates - the Cooktown mechanics chapter, plus the mention that along with some other spots north of Weipa - Batavia Landing is also closed at the moment.

There are no other changes, so there is no need to update otherwise, but if you need the latest version (and bought one within the last two years), you are always welcome to get in touch and I will send you the latest edition.

If you don't already have the Guide - there will not be any more updates until 2023 - a great time to buy :-)

DESTINATION CAPE YORK GIFT CARD

And finally - there is always the Gift Card :-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME

I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.

Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.

If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.

That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!

Have a great day :-)

Katrin.
