Cape York News #108 - Tourist Season, Road Report, Coming Events July 09, 2021 |
Hi Everyone, The tourist traffic is well and truly here; below is a road report, and the coming events :-) ============================================= • Tourist Season • Road Report • Coming Events • A Small Update on Rental Vehicles • Feedback Always Welcome ============================================= TOURIST SEASON It's been really crowded up here, particularly during the recent school holidays. The main street of Bamaga looked nothing short of "Bourke Street" compared to our normal traffic, and the supermarket carpark was so full that cars were waiting for someone to leave to get a spot. Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL). Camping grounds are still full and Punsand Bay has announced that there is no entry to their resort without a previous booking. ROAD REPORT My partner has just done another trip down to Cairns, so below is what he said about the road.
The conditions, as expected, are much drier compared to the last month's newsletter, and even more dusty with more traffic.
More sealing works are under way, particularly between Laura and Hann River, and new culverts are waiting to be placed in different spots.
The creek crossings (on the main road) have dried, and the corrugations are growing, as they do with the growing traffic. COMING EVENTS So after the last month's events at Cooktown, Laura and Bamaga, this month we will have the Mareeba Rodeo, Cairns and Mossman Show, and the Ruchook Festival. Good to know if you are around and want to include some of these in your trip :-)
As promised, there are no updates coming until 2022 that would require you to reprint the Guide. There was however, a small update about the rental vehicles to take up to the Cape. Only two pages of the rules of the local 4WD rentals which needed to get updated, so if you are looking to rent this year, please get in touch and I will send you the latest version. There are no other changes, so there is no need to update if you have the 2021 Edition (and are not renting), but if you need the latest version (and bought one within the last two years), you are always welcome to ask and I will send you the latest one. If you don't already have the Guide - there will not be any more updates until 2022 - a great time to buy :-)
