CREB TRACK OPEN

The famous CREB Track opened in late August, and for it to happen it's quite a normal time of the year.

Sorry that the wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are covered by the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share. Posting screen shots, downloading photos or copying & pasting text is illegal.

It often doesn't open before August, because it's in the Wet Tropics rainforests.

LATEST ROAD REPORT

So, just having come back home from Cairns, here is the latest road report so that you know what to expect in case you are coming up.

fairview to hann august 2020

In the very southern end, there are roadworks between Fairview and the gate of Koolburra Station.

hann to musgrave august 2020

Then, there is a very bad bit with lots of corrugation until the Hann River bit of bitumen.

musgrave to coen august 2020

Hann River to Musgrave is corrugated more or less, but very rough in some places and there are some dust holes.

coen to archer august 2020

Musgrave to Coen also had corrugations but was not as bad in most places.

archer to bamaga turnoff august 2020

Coen to Archer - corrugated, more than the previous bit (Musgrave to Coen) but less than the one before (Hann River to Musgrave).

telegraph road august 2020

Archer to Bamaga turnoff has now been sealed for a long time, but north of that - the Telegraph Road until Bramwell - southern half of that bit was mostly very good but the northern half was more corrugated.

southern bypass august 2020

Southern Bypass - the southern end was good, graded, and had some roadworks. All the rest was very bad, badly corrugated, particularly in the bends, and there are plenty of them on the Southern Bypass.

northern bypass august 2020

Northern Bypass - southern half of it was good, but the northern half now has corrugations (didn't have a month ago).
