Cape York News #089 - Road Report, Updates on the Sealing of the PDR, Coming Events October 11, 2019 |
Hi Everyone, It's been a busy couple of months even though the tourist season was bigger last year. Below is a road report, updates on the PDR sealing, and the coming events :-) ============================================= • Road Report • Sealing of the PDR • Coming Events • Banner Change and New Logo • Feedback Always Welcome ============================================= ROAD REPORT On a recent trip to Weipa, the road was pretty good. Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link
to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL). Southern Bypass was pretty bad with lots of corrugations in places. Telegraph Road: Bramwell to Moreton very good, graded. Moreton to Batavia turnoff was very bad on the way down but was getting graded a week later on the return trip - so it should be all good now. Batavia Road was very good. Weipa end was mostly very good, except some small sections of corrugations south of the sealed stretch. The "Weipa end" is the only one that is a part of the PDR - which is the road from Lakeland to Weipa - not to the Tip. SEALING OF THE PDR The locals who buy the Cape York newspaper already know about this, but not necessarily the southerners, so - there is a new push for more funding to seal the PDR. It means that what was in the newsletter earlier this year about the PDR sealing, could change and I will keep you updated. COMING EVENTS So the last lot of coming events for this year are Chillagoe Bulls, Broncs and Barrels; Cooktown Barra Comp, Aurukun Festival and Cooktown Races. After these, the events of the year die right down, as does the tourist season. BANNER CHANGE AND NEW LOGO And last but not least - the name, banner and logo change for this website :-) I have wanted to do this for a long time but never had the extra time, so finally, this year, I got around to it. ![]() The whole website is now called Destination Cape York (previously only the guide books were). It has a new banner and a new logo to make it easier to find for those who are looking :-) FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide. Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip. If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me. That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!! Have a great day :-) Katrin. P.S. If you cannot see the photo banner in the top of this page, instead of photos you only see photo texts, and instead of links you see url addresses throughout the text, you are using email software that only reads text. Consider getting an email account with Yahoo or others that can read HTML (and remember to change your email address, which can be done in the end of every newsletter. |
