ROAD REPORT

Being past the peak also means that the road is getting pretty bad (as the traffic is the one that's creating and worsening the corrugations) - so, below is a report from a very recent trip down to Cairns.

Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL).

In the southern end, the road is sealed until Fairview - that is the same as it was last year, and the rest of the sealing also hasn't increased much within the last year at all.

laura to musgrave july 2019

The Laura to Musgrave section had roadworks in the southern end, and then corrugations and dust holes in most of it (photo above).

musgrave to coen july 2019

Musgrave to Coen was very bad. Hugely corrugated areas, just really bad, there were bits you just could not do fast at all (photo above).

coen to archer july 2019

Coen to Archer was also bad, but not as bad as the previous section. The southern end was pretty good, the middle had some bad corrugation, and the northernmost part was getting roadworks done (photo above).

piccaninny to bramwell july 2019

Archer to Piccaninny is sealed (as it was last year), and Piccaninny to Bramwell - the southern parts were pretty good, while the northern parts were pretty bad with corrugations (photo above).

southern bypass july 2019

Southern Bypass was good in the southern end, but the middle was partly very bad with patches of deep corrugations. Its northern end was also better and there were roadworks in the middle of the Southern and Northern Bypass (photo above).

northern bypass july 2019

Northern Bypass - the southern parts were not too bad, but the northern parts were pretty bad with some places with the roughest corrugations (photo above).

CAPE MELVILLE AND OYALA THUMOTANG NATIONAL PARKS OPEN

During the month of July, the three sections of Oyala Thumotang National Park opened: Langi section that includes the Ten Mile Junction, Old Archer Crossing, Jerry Lagoon and Twin Lagoons camping areas; Coen section that includes the Chong Swamp, Mango Lagoon, First Coen River, Second Coen River and Vardons Lagoon camping areas; and Archer Bend section that includes the Horsetailer Waterhole and Governor's Waterhole camping areas.
