THE SEASON AND THE ROAD

We are in the peak of the tourist season, which is always the case during the June - July school holidays.

Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL).

Streets and shops are crowded, and lines are building at the ferry crossing even without the lunch hour this time of the year.

Yes - no ferry closure during the lunch hour, plus one more opening hour in the beginning and in the end of the day! So during this tourist season they trial having the ferry open 7am - 6pm and not closing for the lunch - and we love it :-)

The rest of the road - has not been fully graded but has been patched up.

There are better and worse sections, and Coen to Archer is still the roughest part.

Dips can be rough, some creeks in the bottom of the dips still have some water in.

Some washout holes have now been fixed like the one that was on the Southern Bypass.

Northern Bypass is still better than the Southern one.

And all this will gradually get worse and more corrugated with the continuing traffic, until they grade it.

LAKEFIELD OPENING EARLY

Due to favourable weather conditions, Lakefield National Park is opening earlier than lately predicted

The southern half of the park has already opened, and that includes the following campsites: Melaleuca Waterhole, Hanush’s Waterhole, Hann Crossing, Welcome Waterhole, Horseshoe Lagoon, Old Laura Homestead, Six Mile Waterhole, Twelve Mile Lagoon (except sites sites 7 and 8), Kennedy Bend, Old Faithful Waterhole, Dingo Waterhole, Mick Fienn Waterhole and Kalpowar Crossing.

NO MORE UPDATES IN THE DESTINATION GUIDE IN 2019

And finally - it's a brilliant time to grab a copy of the  Destination Guide :-)

There will be no more updates this year, and I am hearing back from lots of people about how happy they are with it.

While I have not had the time yet to put in the 2019 feedback, in the below link is what people have said in the years before:

https://www.capeyorkaustralia.com/visit-cape-york-destination-guide-feedback.html

And there is also feedback on the sales page:

https://www.capeyorkaustralia.com/visit-cape-york.html

It always makes my day and warms my heart, as I choose to write about one place that I know inside out (instead of raking in from covering many destinations but not really knowing the ins and outs).

The living AND travelling it, and always putting in the hours to do everything properly, is what makes it unique and in-depth.

There are also the Doggie, the Caravan, and the Trailer Guide with their own local detail, all available inside the full Destination Guide :-)

In case you have an older version of the full Destination Guide that you bought within the last two years (as the Doggie Guide is only in there since 2017, the Caravan Guide since 2018 and the Trailer Guide since 2019 - if you want to get any of these), or if you simply have not updated your Destination Guide - you better travel with the latest one, so let me know and I will send you the latest version :-)
