ROAD OPEN, LOCAL BUSINESSES OPEN FOR THE SEASON

So, we survived April - a lot better than last year! After a Wet Season that was worse (at least up here, furthest north on the peninsula) than the one of 2017, the April month actually ended up being a drier one.

Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL).

While last year - the ANZAC Day 2017 had the Loyalty Beach campground completely flooded, this year the sunny skies and dry weather seemed to arrive earlier.

So the local businesses have opened, all waiting for you to come up, and while we haven't been down yet to report on the road, a few early travellers are arriving and they say that the road is ok, just drive to the conditions in the worse parts.

Up here, Loyalty Beach is open for camping (restaurant will open soon), the Croc Tent has doors open, and Punsand Bay opened on ANZAC Day. Further down the peninsula the roadhouses have been opening up one after another, too.

So - the cyclone season is finished, we might still have a late shower. We have had a few clouds with a few drops in, but mostly very sunny, and it doesn't look like we are in for any big rains.

PRICES UPDATED IN THE DESTINATION GUIDE

And finally - the prices have been updated in the Destination Guide - I love when this bit of work is done for the year :-)

They don't change much (most go a few dollars up and some go down), and no other major changes were made, so if you have the 2018 version it is still up to date.

There is a little room for error, (there are always a few places that I cannot reach - they might have phone line down or they might be away for the wet season, which is their quiet season and the time for them to go on holidays to the south).

But, I make sure I do this each year in April, and do my best to ensure that each and every camp ground, tour business and accommodation has its newest possible price in the book (I cannot do these updates in the January edition, because most of the local businesses don't decide on their prices for the year before the end of the Wet Season, most by 31. March, so April is the earliest time that I can do these updates reliably). Oh, and yes - it was dragged 5 days into May - because of our four week power outage this Wet Season, I was already set back weeks when I started doing these updates.

If you bought the guide, the FREE upgrade is yours - if you bought before 2017 and would like the upgrade, please go back to your original purchase confirmation email and download again, the new version is now up there. If you bought during 2017-2018, please get back to me and I will send you the latest version :-)

And, if you haven't got one - these were the last updates of the year - so a brilliant time to buy one :-)
