Cape York News #063 - Roads Corrugated, Bathurst Head Camping Ready, CREB Track Open for the Season
August 25, 2017

Hi everyone,

We are coming towards the end of the busiest part of the season, and even though there are still the September school holidays, the tourist numbers are low at the moment, and this season, all in all, seems to have been quite low in numbers.

The roads are corrugated, as the mid-to-late-season roads always are; the Bathurst Head camping system has been finalised, and CREB Track is open for the season.

THE ROADS

The roads are pretty bad, at least up here in the NPA.

South of Jardine is always a bad patch, but at this moment, Bamaga to Croc Tent is even worse.

BATHURST HEAD CHANGES FINALISED

Bathurst Head paid camping system has been finalised and all the detail is up to date in the Destination Guide.

It might seem an annoying thing from a traveller's point of view, however on the paid camping grounds we should be able to expect some caretaking, and less rubbish laying around.

CREB TRACK OPEN

CREB Track opened for the season last week, even though this track can get closed at any time within the season in case of any significant rains.

Contrary to some people's statements on the internet, that this track is 'safe', or even 'best done' while its closed - it's not only that the council has its reasons and that it is illegal to pass the road closure signs, but it's also that part of it is indigenous land, and as we have seen elsewhere on the Cape - disrespect will come back to us in the end.

COMING EVENTS

While every second year we have the Torres Strait Cultural Festival on Thursday Island, and the NPA Cultural Festival in Bamaga, this year is off for both, and for those years TI has another event - the Torres Shire Multicultural Festival.

It's a smaller event with no similar amount of cultural dances, but is still a nice social event in the park and does have cultural performances including singing and dancing :-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME

I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.

Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.

If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.

That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!

Have a great day :-)

Katrin.
