Hi everyone,
We are past the peak of
the tourist season and it's already less busy than it was
during the June-July school holidays (in case you were wishing for the
crowds to go, it's a lot better to come up now!).
Below are the updates
about Vrilya Point and Bathurst Head, along with other
bits and pieces :-)

In This Issue:
• Vrilya Point Updates
• Bathurst Head Updates
• Starcke Track and Cape Melville Area All Open
• Feedback Always Welcome

VRILYA
POINT UPDATES
I am getting
lots of questions about Vrilya Point again, because it was said it might open later
this year - so here is the unfortunate answer.
On the gate (which was obviously there to stay) - Vrilya's
message is very clear. The traditional owners' announcements
didn't do, neither did
the signs, the gate came
along, and - now even
the police tape is there - they are very strict about its closure.

that the wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These

The bridge of Crystal Creek is behind the gate, and getting around the bridge alone
was never an okay option (just to answer some common
reader questions).
The beach is closed, the
whole area is closed full stop, and they don't give a lot
of hope for the near future either.
There are no plans about
when it might open, and the owners say it may well stay
closed
for the rest of the year or longer.
BATHURST
HEAD UPDATES
The Kalpowar
people of the Bathurst Head are still getting their paid camping system
working. I was hoping to
announce in this newsletter but it will have to be the next one.

Bathurst Heads Turnoff
The full info about all
the camping sites with prices, maps and the maximum length
of stay and maximum amount of people/vehicles on each camping site - will be updated in the Destination Guide as
soon as they have it all finalised.
You always get the updates included
in the price even if you
buy before that happens :-)
STARCKE
TRACK AND CAPE MELVILLE AREA ALL OPEN
And
the other gem just next door, Cape Melville - was supposed to
open on 1. August but opened a fair bit earlier.

Starcke Wakooka Track into Cape Melville National Park
Along with the Starcke
Wakooka Track which was also open early, compared to the
previous years when its late opening was due to Cyclone
Ita (2014) and Cyclone
Nathan (2015); and in 2016, that area just had a lot heavier
Wet Season than they had this year.
EVENTS
THIS MONTH
There are two rodeos coming this month
- Mt Carbine and
Weipa.

Mt Carbine Rodeo 2014
Both are great events
that you could plan into your trip if you are around in
August :-)

FEEDBACK
ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback
on the Destination Guide.
Please let
me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and
while using the
information once on the
trip.
If you get any questions
about
anything, please feel welcome to contact me.
That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to
those on the road!!
Have a great day :-)
Katrin.
