CAPE MELVILLE OPEN FOR THE SEASON

While being on the tracks we missed to report the opening of the northern part of Lakefield National Park in June - sorry about that.

But the northernmost part of the area - the remote Cape Melville National Park opened today - even though they have mainly only cleared the beach from the mess from cyclone Nathan.

You will only get there from the Musgrave end, via the northern Lakefield National Park, since the coastal track from Cape Melville to Battlecamp Road - the Stracke - Wakooka Track, is still closed, and what they think probably will be closed for the rest of the year.

Cyclone Nathan may have missed Cooktown, but it was a powerful category four system as it crossed the coast further north, leaving behind enough destruction that they have not managed to clear it all.

I will keep an eye on its possible opening and hope we are not too remote to send a newsletter if it happens.

ARCHER BEND CLOSED FOR THE YEAR

In the last newsletter I announced that Oyala Thumotang National Park is open for the season - however, the most remote part - Archer Bend - will not be open in 2015.

According to the rangers they have a bad section of the road that they are not going to get repaired, so this is for everyone's safety.

Well I hope it opens as soon as possible, because we cannot wait to get in there :-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME
