BATTLECAMP ROAD AND SOUTHERN LAKEFIELD OPEN

Battlecamp Road and the southern part of Lakefield National Park opened for visitors two days ago - a week earlier than the usual 1. June, thanks to the poor Wet Season.

The northern part - north of Kalpowar - is still closed, and predicted to open in early July, but Cape Melville will be later, probably early August, because there is still some mess from Cyclone Nathan.

UPDATES ON VRILYA POINT

There have been some rumours around about Vrilya Point being open.

The people who are working on it have said that they are still fixing it, that there is still a meeting to come before it opens, and they do not want to guess when it will be open.

I would ignore all the rumours that are around.

AUSTIN 7 TO CAPE YORK IN LATE JUNE - TRACK REPORTS NEEDED

And finally - if you travel in late June, keep your eyes open for an Austin 7 - the type of car that was the first to make it to the Tip of Cape York back in 1926.

An Austin 7 in Laura.

Australian adventurers Lang and Bev Kidby are going unsupported on a 1928 Austin 7 to recreate the first drive by Hector MacQuarrie and Dick Matthews.

The couple has done similar expeditions to 40 other countries during the past 30 years - you can read more about them and their adventures on their website - www.next-horizon.org

They will include the Old Telegraph Track to the trip, and hopefully Jardine crossing, where they plan to use an old method of wrapping and floating the car - the way they crossed some big rivers in Papua New Guinea.

Sounds like a good watch, and will surely make good photos, so keep your eyes open :-)

They are asking for the latest conditions, particularly at the hardest crossings, so if you are around and just did the Old Telegraph Track, please let them know in what conditions the track and crossings were by commenting on their page any time. Any photos please contact me and I will put your pics into your comment.

Or why not share their page on Facebook and let others know - thank you!

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME

I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.

Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.

If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.

That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those already on the road!!

Have a great day :-)

Katrin
