Hi everyone,
The Tropical Low that had formed in the northern Gulf of Carpentaria
yesterday, turned into a tropical
cyclone this afternoon.
It's now heading towards the western coast of Cape York, and predicted
to make landfall between Weipa and Aurukun.

CYCLONE
GILLIAN
This is the reality we live in during the cyclone season.
You don't know about a cyclone more than a few days ahead.
Cyclone Gillian formed today and is
predicted to hit the coast in two days time, on 10. March 2014.
Here is what my friend wrote to me
from Weipa tonight:
All good here; been working today and the rain started about 4.30pm
along with a bit of wind, but nothing more than we have had lately.
Everyone is getting cyclone prepped, and the store was packed along
with petrol stations - why people haven't already got stuff at home
ahead of a cyclone, I will never understand!!
Last minute panic buying as always.
It's only expected to be a Cat 1/2 with up to 150K winds - a little
less than we went through with Yasi, so not being overly anxious at
this stage, although I guess if you are new to town and new to a
cyclone, then can understand, cause I did the same before Yasi!!
I will be working tomorrow, so will see how it goes then.
At the moment, light rain, but tomorrow will see what happens.

UPDATES
The road update is that the Peninsula
Developmental is closed, with Archer River seven metres above
the causeway - you can just imagine how different Cape York is during
the Wet Season!
My friend from Weipa added:
Roads are closed, but people still going to Penne up Mapoon Road, which
is passable with potholes I believe.
My own updates: Yep the Wet
season has come to the stage I cannot wait it to be over.
But I have been strong through it, working hard on updating the pages
on the website (still more than half to go for this overhaul), and preparing myself for the big job
ahead in
April - the price updates in the Destination Guide.
You do not need to wait
until April if you want to buy the guide - the updated version will be
available for you once it's ready.
FEEDBACK
ALWAYS WELCOME
I really appreciate any kind of feedback
on the Destination Guide.
Please let
me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the
trip, and while using the
information once on the trip.
If you get any questions about
anything, please feel welcome to contact me.
That's all for this time - happy planning everyone :-)
